My Bio
:star:About Me:star:

:bulletblack:I tend to focus on abstract art, usually but not always based off fractals generated in Apophysis or XaoS. When I do not rely upon rendered fractals, I use DeviantArt muro or weavesilk.com to give myself a base. Only rarely do I use GIMP for the entire process. I try to make these compatible with common screen dimensions so they can be used as desktop backgrounds, unless I feel a deviation simply must be a perfect square. I tend to emphasize color and symmetry.
:bulletblack:More rarely, I color things in. I'm open for collabs; if you can provide me the lineart or the sketch, I can give it some color, as in fav.me/d6p2odd . Please note me if you're interested.
:bulletblack: I used to make my own sketches (especially fanart) and work on coloring those, but I currently lack materials, motivation, and practice.
:bulletblack: I sporadically update / work on a written series called "I Believe," but I only have so much writing in me in one day, and if that writing is taken up by real life obligations, well, not much gets done
:bulletblack: I also occasionally write poetry, but that serves more as a public emotional release valve than an art.

:bulletred: I do not do commissions. Why, might you ask? I am not a professional. By definition, that means I do not get paid for my work. I have no desire to change my amateur status.
:bulletred: Many of my deviations are in storage because they are no longer up to my standards, but I cannot bear to part with them. Trust me, you aren't missing any great artistic talent in those hidden pieces, so don't feel bad about not being able to view them.
:bulletred: I'm open for suggestions concerning my abstract work. I'd like to explore new ideas, but I'm limited by my skill and my (rather small) library of textures and renders. So don't show me the work of a greater artist and be all like "ohmigosh Kira made me something just like this but in purple! :la:" For one thing, that's quite possibly a violation of copyright. For another, it's probably beyond my skill to re-create an entire piece using my own tools. And finally, if modifications are allowed on the original piece, it's a simple matter to colorize it or shift the hues, and two minutes of loading time plus thirty seconds of editing does not constitute art.
:bulletred: If you'd like to try out the programs I use, note me and I can provide links and basic instruction.

Q: I see a lot of your art has to do with things called "fractals." What are those?
A: Wikipedia should give you enough information to satisfy your curiosity: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractal_….

Q:You used to do a lot of sketches. Why don't I see those anymore?
A:Most of my sketches were done during classes, and I need to pay attention in class now :(

Q:What's the big deal with you, symmetry, and full-spectrum color schemes?
A:I like rainbows. I like organized things. I like organized rainbow things. That pretty much sums it up. I've been trying to reach out of my artistic comfort zone for a while, but old habits die hard.

Q:Why don't you delete your old art? It's pretty bad, you know...
A:Two reasons. 1.) There is just so much of it. 2.) They're a nice reminder of how much I have improved.

Q:Why don't you post as often as you used to? You used to have 1-3 artworks per day and 1 journal per day...
A:Well, for one thing, there simply isn't enough time. I no longer just sit there and fool around with a mouse. I'm limited by how quickly my computer can render fractals now, as well as how much time in the day I have to work on things. For another, I've been having a lack of inspiration, and if I do have inspiration, it's for something I cannot possibly do at my skill level.

:star:Personal:star:

Q: So obviously you have a life outside of deviantART. What do you do?
A: I play fantasy MMORPGs and attend university. I also sometimes have a job.

:bulletblack: I will never ever offer prints of things I do in programs that I feel do a lot of the "work" for me, like Apophysis or weavesilk.
:bulletblack: If I did fanart/fanfiction of something that you own and you don't want fanart/fanfiction of that thing, just shoot me a message and I will gladly take it down. I don't want to offend!
:bulletblack: I sometimes add watermarks to my work, but just as well may not. A piece missing a watermark does not mean you're free to claim ownership. My art is still my art.
:bulletblack: That said, as long as you give credit to KiraOnTheNetz and don't try to sell my work, I'm cool with pretty much everything. My current policy, which applies to all abstract art where not otherwise specified, is as follows:
" Feel free to re-post anywhere, download, or modify, but do not claim ownership (except for any modifications you yourself did), and do not use my art for commercial purposes without my explicit written permision. Try to avoid removing my watermark, but if it really bothers you, you may deface it so long as you link back to my deviantart page instead. If possible, mention the programs used (typically Apophysis and GIMP. Check piece description)."
:bulletblack: If there's ever any doubt what I mean, you can check the CCL, which ought to cover any and all loopholes I've left. The vast majority of my pieces are under the CCL. If you're still confused, just ask me.

:star:AND ABOVE ALL:star:
I am not a scary person. Sometimes I post stupid and/or angry things, this is true (more often stupid than angry, but this is the Internet and that is par for the course), but if you ever need to note me, please don't hesitate to do so.
:bulletblack: If I don't get back to you for a few days, that's because I'm busy. I don't hate you. The account is just barely active for now.
:bulletblack: If I give you a harsh review, that's because I feel people need both positive and negative feedback if they truly want to improve (though I tend to do this for critiques more than just comments, because to me a critique request means "go all-out and give constructive criticism," and for regular comments, I'm well aware that there are artists out there who take criticism worse than I do, so I'm learning to keep my mouth shut there). Once again, it's not because I hate you or your art.
:bulletblack: I like having notes in my inbox!
